In 2007, a group of parents approached the ISHB principal to establish a bursary program. Establishing a culturally diverse school was seen as important, especially within the Hout Bay community.
A bursary committee comprising parents, a community person, principal, vice principals (‘the bursary committee’) was formed.

Imizamo-Yethu
A sub committee with other parents was formed and was responsible for fundraising for the bursary programme. The sub committee further represents part of the parents’ commitment to such a programme

Hangberg
The bursary committee decided to research other schools’ bursary programmes to learn from their experiences. Interviews were conducted with the following schools: Ambleside; Kronendal; The German school; St Cyprians; Bridge house and a short report was produced. A suitable model was then extracted for our school.
