Rehearsals are going full-steam ahead for the Hout Bay cross-community choir as they prepare for their first gig on Friday December 6th – the annual CHELO Xmas Carol extravaganza at HBIS.
The yet-to-be-named choir now boasts a contingent of 35 singers from Imizamo Yethu (including amazing voices from the acclaimed Ingoma Choir), Hangberg and the Hout Bay Valley. The choir is being conducted by well-known Hout Bay musical guru, Mike Pilot, who brings a wealth of experience and musical creativity to the project.
The choir held their second rehearsal this week and there’s been amazing feedback from the singers, a truly diverse and representative group, all excited about singing together and the fabulous sound that they’re beginning to produce.
HBIS school parent and choir member, Nicky Broxis says, “Our choir has a unique and very fresh energy and we are really enjoying its diversity – we love the way it brings us together. CHELO Carol concert-goers can expect to be wowed on December 6th as we sing a variety of well-known Christmas carols, with our unique twist, and some other popular songs. We don’t want to give too much away, but we’re so looking forward to December’s concert at the school.”
“It’s an amazing way for the Hout Bay community to come together, whilst raising funds for CHELO’s bursary fund for Hout Bay’s children.”
