Hello There
Chelo the Bursary Programme of HBIS, has a few positions opening on our governance committee, and we’d love for you to join us. CHELO raises the funds to provide a world-class education for children from previously disadvantaged communities of Hout Bay. It is a dynamic program that gives back to the community while supporting a more diverse student body at our amazing school.
The time commitment is at least one meeting per term with school leadership and about 2-3 hours per week on average. The minimum service period is two years and all committee members must end their term after four years maximum. Ideally, we need PYP and MYP parents.
Chelo’s current chair, Karin Turner, and family will be departing this winter for the UK and she is eager to answer any questions from a willing candidate before July. She can continue to support the transition from the UK until the end of 2022.
The main roles of the Chairperson include:
– Keep abreast of occurrences within the Chelo committee, mentors and families.
– Organize and facilitate Annual General Meeting (AGM) & governance committee meetings.
– Lead voting/elections of committee members.
– Leading the governance committee.
– Link to school authorities.
-Legal liaison associated with Chelo.
– Represent Chelo as the main point of contact to school /owner/International Education System (IES)
We also have other committee positions opening soon, including Marketing/Fundraising Coordinator, Mentor Liaison, Secretary, and Support Service Liaison.
